Abstract Among the many varieties of Ukrainian jasper, jasper from the Mountainous Crimea positively stands out for its artistic and aesthetic properties. They already have long historical and cultural traditions of use, products from them were presented at a foreign exhibition in Italy. These jaspers are found both in native deposits and in placers on the Black Sea coast of Crimea and in the alluvium of the Alma, Kacha and Bodrak rivers. And although some of these rocks, according to the petrographic definition, are not classic jasper, but a jasper-like rock, they can be considered jasper based on textural and color characteristics. So, jaspers from the Kara-Dag mountain massif are represented by samples with various colors and attractive textural patterns, which are not inferior to the highly decorative jaspers of the world. Jaspers from Cape Fiolent mostly have a red color and spherulite, spherulite-veined textural patterns and are well processed. Jasper from the alluvial deposits of the Alma, Kachi and Bodrak rivers is characterized by a red color and uniform or striped textural patterns and small sample sizes. Black and white jasper (black and white) and trout jasper ("trout stone") are unique in the world and authentic to Crimea. Black mordenite jasper has a chalcedony-mordenite composition with admixtures of other minerals and, due to its green, green-gray, green-blue colors and striped, striped-dappled, breccia-like textural patterns, it is a highly decorative manufactured stone. The same applies to trout jasper, which is only available in Ukraine and was only recently introduced into the circulation of jewelry. It is a hydrothermally processed volcanic rock of medium-acidic composition (it is a paleotypical garnet-bearing plagiodacite) with a highly decorative textural pattern similar to the coloration of river trout, and with an excellent ability to polish with a mirror luster. |
Keywords: jasper, jasper-like rock, Mountain Crimea, jasper from Kara-Dag, jasper from Fiolent, chornomoryt jasper, chernomorite, trout jasper, trout stone. |
