Precious and Decorative Stones — Scientific and Practical Journal, with a periodic specialized publications in the fields of gemology, mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry, geology of mineral deposits, and economic geology.
Purpose of the journal: to publish scientific and science-oriented publicistic articles, research communications and reviews, critiques, as well as applied and reference materials in the field of Specialty 103 “Earth Sciences.”
Objectives of the journal: to highlight current and challenging issues in the scientific domain of expert examination and valuation of precious, semi-precious, and decorative stones, as well as other scientific topics in gemology, mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry, economic geology, geology of mineral deposits, mineral exploration and evaluation, natural resource management, and the history of geological science.

Archiving and Long-Term Preservation
The archiving and long-term preservation of the journal “Precious and Decorative Stones” in an Open Access format is ensured by размещення all electronic issues in the “Archive” section on the official website of the journal.
To guarantee the reliable preservation of scholarly content, the journal also utilizes national institutional resources:
– electronic versions of issues are deposited in Scientific Periodicals of Ukraine (State Digital Library of Ukraine);
– printed copies are distributed to the collections of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine, the Yaroslav Mudryi National Library of Ukraine, the Book Chamber of Ukraine, and other libraries in accordance with the mandatory distribution list.
The journal applies modern technical solutions and international standards that ensure reliable identification, indexing, and accessibility of published materials regardless of changes to the website address. In particular, persistent identifiers (PIDs) are used:
– Digital Object Identifier (DOI) – for the identification of journal articles and issues;
– ORCID — for the identification of authors.
These approaches ensure the long-term preservation, accessibility, and citability of the scholarly publications of the journal “Precious and Decorative Stones” in accordance with international standards of scholarly communication.
Legal Guarantees
The editorial board of the journal “Precious and Decorative Stones” ensures the protection of authors’ rights and open access to scholarly publications in accordance with international standards:
– the use of Creative Commons (CC) licenses, which allow free distribution, use, and archiving of materials provided that authorship is properly attributed and the source is duly cited;
– a self-archiving policy (Self-Archiving, SURE), which allows authors to deposit preprints and postprints of their articles in open electronic resources (institutional repositories, academic platforms, etc.).

The journal “Precious and Decorative Stones” adheres to an Open Access policy, ensuring free and unrestricted access to scholarly publications. Electronic versions of articles are made openly available, and full-text access to materials in real time is provided on the journal’s official website in the “Archive” section.
The Open Access policy complies with the principles of Open Science, in particular with the regulatory documents of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the implementation of Open Science principles (Regulation on Open Science in the NAS of Ukraine No. 350 dated 12 June 2024 and Order of the NAS of Ukraine No. 352).
The journal provides open access to publications under the Creative Commons Attribution–NoDerivatives 4.0 International license (CC BY-ND 4.0).
Rights and Responsibilities of Users
Users have the right to:
– reproduce and distribute journal materials for both non-commercial and commercial purposes;
– use materials for their own scientific and educational needs.
Users are required to:
– indicate the author(s) of the publication and the source;
– provide accurate bibliographic references in accordance with the requirements of the Creative Commons (CC) license;
– comply with the terms of the CC license when using the materials.
Users are prohibited from:
– distributing derivative works or modified versions of the materials;
– providing open access to such materials without complying with the terms of the CC license.
Failure to comply with the terms of the CC license may result in copyright infringement and liability under the applicable legislation of Ukraine. The CC license is automatically terminated in the event of a violation of its terms. Users’ rights may be reinstated after the violation has been remedied within 30 days from the date it was identified.
Citation of Publications
Bibliographic references to the journal’s materials should be formatted in accordance with the national standard DSTU 8302:2015 or international citation styles (APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, etc.). The list of citation styles recommended by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is provided in paragraph 11 of the Requirements for the Preparation of Dissertations and in Appendix 3 to these Requirements, approved by Order No. 40 dated 12 January 2017.
A bibliographic reference typically includes: author(s); title of the article; title of the journal; year of publication; issue number; page range; and the DOI or a hyperlink to the location of the article.
If a publication has a DOI, its inclusion is generally sufficient for source identification.
