| Abstract The objective of this work is to compare the domestic and international classifications of geological monuments of nature and the place in them of geological heritage objects related to natural stones. Such objects have a significant impact on the character of the corresponding cultural landscapes and are – in one way or another – significant for the building culture of Ukraine and neighboring countries. As a result, several varieties of natural stones of sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous genesis were analyzed, their use in the building culture of our country at different times, it was proposed to submit them as geological heritage objects for consideration to the International Commission on Geoheritage. Further research involves a more indepth analysis of the cultural and historical heritage in the field of natural stones of Ukraine in order to increase the popularity of certain regions for tourism, including quarries as technical monuments, local museums and numerous historical buildings where this material was used. The practical significance of this work is to increase the tourist attractiveness of geological monuments directly related to these types of natural stones. The unique location of internationally recognized geoheritage stones also helps to develop selfconfidence of local communities, especially in economically weak regions. |
