Abstract
Amber in the territory of the Polissya part of Ukraine is positioned with the Mezhyhirya Formation of the Lower Oligocene. Its accumulation was controlled by the paleogeomorphological features of the sedimentation basin and erosion area and the facies conditions of the accumulation of amber-bearing sediments. Reproducing the real conditions of amber accumulation within the northern part of the Rivne region, which is the richest in amber (Klesiv and Dubrovytsky amber-bearing regions) is impossible due to postsedimentation processes that are widely developed among loose Paleogene rocks. The extraction of amber in the legal field by the Amber Galbin Group of companies contributed to the opportunity to study and link the lithological features of amber-bearing deposits with the characteristics of the amber found in them, in particular the pieces that predominate in weight. The article presents the results of a comparative analysis of the granulometric composition of amber-bearing deposits and the weight of fractionated pieces of amber present among them, extracted by the Amber Galbyn Group of companies in three areas of the Klesivsky and one area of the Dubrovytsky amber-bearing regions of Ukrainian Polissya. The sediments of the Mezhyhirya formation of the Klesiv amber-bearing region are represented by mixed-grained sands with a predominance of coarse- and medium-grained fractions and insignificant contents of silt and clay particles, the sediments of the Dubrovytsky amber-bearing region are represented by medium-fine-grained sands with a higher content of silt and clay material. The most frequent presence of amber pieces of the smallest industrial fractions of 5-50 g among sands with dominant coarse-grained particles in three areas of the Klesiv region was found, which indicates the possibility of an inverse correlation between the size of granular particles of sand and the weight of amber pieces in it. For the Dubrovytskyi district, such a correlation is absent. The established peculiarity of amber accumulation according to weight criteria and external signs confirms its accumulation in excellent lithological and facies conditions and complements the forecast factors and search signs of amber localization in the Pripyat amber-bearing basin, which were previously proposed by the authors.
Keywords: amber, sand, area, granulometric composition, fraction weight, Polissia.
