Abstract
The results of complex gemological studies of a pearl/nacre doublet insert in an antique jewelry item are represented. The main gemological characteristics were determined, microscopic study of the object was carried out, the semi-quantitative X-ray fluorescence analysis (EXDRF) and X-ray radiography methods were applied in the research.
It is possible to suggest by the results of the research that the authors deal with the rare marine cultured pearl as a compound of pearl/nacre doublet. The approximate age of this pearl considered as more than 100 years and it was possibly produced by "Mikimoto" company.
Keywords: doublet, marine cultured pearls, complex gemological studies, microscopy, X-ray fluorescence analysis, X-ray radiography.
