Abstract
The analysis of international experience on the modern principles of pearls сlassification, terminology, processing and treatment given in the updated CIBJO standards and guidelines as well as in the documents of other gemological laboratories has been carried out. The main theses presented in the first edition of the CIBJO Guide for Classifying Natural and Cultured Pearls are considered. The main criteria for the pearls evaluation used in the reports on pearls of the world's leading laboratories are given.
